Philipsburg THEN

Philipsburg, established in 1866, began as a trading post and mining camp. The discovery of silver and the construction of Montana's first silver mill, the Hope Mill, solidified Philipsburg's role as a regional trading hub. The town was named after Philip Deidesheimer, the engineer behind the Hope Smelter. During the late 1800s, the region experienced a boom, and today, visitors can explore the renovated National Historic Business District and various ghost towns to delve into Montana's history.

Philipsburg NOW

Preservation of Philipsburg has endured and today offers an amazing look at the past alongside endless adventures and activities in the area. Granite Ghost Town State Park, once the world's richest silver mine, is located nearby. For those interested in sapphires, Philipsburg's sapphire mines offer the opportunity to prospect for these precious gems. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy Georgetown Lake, offering activities like fishing, boating, camping, and ice-fishing in different seasons. Other attractions include the Discovery Ski Area, museums, the Ghost Town Hall of Fame, and events at Montana's oldest functioning Opera house. Lastly, a visit to the famous Sweet Palace, renowned for its handmade candies, is a must for everyone. Philipsburg, MT, a former mining camp, now offers a wealth of events and activities for visitors to enjoy.
